Hamden Town, North London, 1983… A Time and a place like no other, and the setting for “THE HAMDEN TOWN TAILS”.

Hamden Town is a neighbourhood where Punks, Skins, Goths, Hippies and Metalers congregate and intermingle to live, work, experiment and party. It is the UK’s epicentre of counter-culture, with its plethora of gigs, shops, pubs and market stalls geared up to cater to the alternative tribes that make up the vibrant and creative fashion scene of the early nineteen eighties. It’s a place where you can hear Post-Punk, Two-Tone, Psychedelia, Dub Reggae, Goth, Heavy Metal and a host of other musical styles playing in cafes, bars and nightclubs. A place where people dress in black leather, torn denim, tie-dyed fabrics, bomber jackets, lace, bovver boots, skinny jeans, PVC and fishnets. In Hamden Town wild makeup, jewellery and hairstyles that would turn heads and initiate outrage anywhere else in 1980s in the UK are simply accepted as a legitimate form of self-expression.

It’s a well known fact that Hamden Town is also the location of the largest bestiamorph community in the UK. Goats, Pigs, Rabbits, Dogs and Cats are free to live without the prejudice and judgement they might experience in other less enlightened areas. In Hamden Town the percentage of bestiamorphs jumps from the global average of 4.5% to closer to 12%, with over one in ten residents sporting a tail.

So spike up your Mohawk or shave your head, dye and crimp your hair, free your tail, stop hiding your eyes, pull on your boots, paint your face and hold your head up high. It doesn’t matter if you’re an ape or a ‘morph, a Punk, a Goth or a Skinhead. Let go of all your cares and inhibitions. Hold on tight and join Swinella and Katsith, alongside Chastity, Felina and the rest of the gang, and enter the magical, parallel world of Hamden Town.

“I could no more hide who I was than I could hide the snout in the middle of my face.”

Assigned male at birth, but assigned a pig-girl by the fickle claw of fate, Swinella is a bestiamorph, one of a small percentage of people whose sexual predilections manifest themselves as animal characteristics during adolescence.

Follow Swinella’s curly tail as she leaves her small-town origins behind and heads for Hamden Town, a kaleidoscopic London neighbourhood where teenage tribes, music, self-expression and sexual freedom collide in a dizzying whirlwind of endless possibility.

Set in a parallel world in nineteen eighty three, with a supporting cast of cat-girl dominatrixes, dog-boy skinheads, witches, demons, rabbits and goats, Swinella is the filthiest, funniest and most heart-warming book you’ll read all year.

“To this day I’m intrigued as to why people who aren’t submissive or masochistic chase cats.”

An albino cat-girl with mismatched eyes, Katsith is a bestiamorph. She is one of a small percentage of people whose sexual predilections usually manifest as animal characteristics during adolescence.

But Katsith is different.

One morning Katsith looks out of her window to see a strange girl walking through the graveyard across the road from her flat. She determines to find out who or what this girl is. It is a quest that leads her to discover her own true nature, but at what cost?

The second of The Hamden Town Tails, Katsith is a transgressive journey into the heart of darkness and out the other side.
